The Rafael del Pino Alumni Association and the London Business School Spain Alumni Club have organized next 26 February 2009, at 7 pm in the headquarters of the Rafael del Pino Foundation a conference to be given by the professor José Manuel González-Páramo, Member of the Executive Committee of the European Central Bank. The conference will be titled “The financial crisis: the role of the ECB and the new regulatory environment”.
José Manuel González-Páramo holds a Ph.D. in Economic Sciences by the Complutense Univiersity of Madrid (1985) and by Columbia University (1986). In 1988 he obtained the chair of Public Finance or Treasury (Hacienda Pública) at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he has given courses on Public Finance, European Economy and Public Management.
His publications and researches have been mostly focused on budgetary policy, the economic effects of public spending and taxes and the costs and benefits of desinflation.
From 1985 to 1994 he held positions as economic advisor and consultant in several public and private institutions; among them the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Fund for the Economic and Social Research Foundation, the Bank of Spain, the European Commission and the World Bank. He has participated in several working groups of the Bank for International Settlements and of the OECD regarding economic and financial matters.
In 1994 he was appointed member of the Governing Council of the Bank of Spain and, in 1998, also of its Executive Commission. As member of these governing bodies, he has been responsible for establishing the guidelines related to monetary policy, economic analysis, preparations for the Economic and Monetary Union and financial supervision.
In 2004 he joined the Executive Committee of the European Central Bank.
