José Porras (2001 fellow) started a very entrepreneurial project in Guatemala City. Agexport (Exporter’s Guild Association), Pronacom (National Program for the Competitiveness), and 10 leader firms in the market start the implementation project of Total Productivity Management.

This project is supervised by Dr. David Sumanth, father of the Total Productivity Management. David’s compromise with the project is due to his sympathy for the country and the long-lasting working relationship with some of the business leaders in Guatemala.

The Total Productivity Management led to the development of many countries, India among them, birthplace of Dr. Sumanth. For the last 30 years, India has advanced 50 positions in the world economies’ ranking, basically thanks to the implementation of productivity programs. The success of the model, which is applicable to the 10 firms mentioned above, fires the imagination about a dramatic change in the Guatemalan business scene.
